Introduction
The PCL-752 is an intelligent PC-system monitoring card that can
detect the system operating conditions and generate alarm outputs or
messages to notify the user to take necessary action to avert system
failure. The PCL-752 transforms ordinary industrial PCs into intelli-
gent, self-diagnostic PCs. It also adds a dimension of reliability to
critical applications such as automated telephony.
Powerful Function
The PCL-752 can detect a wide variety of internal system conditions,
including temperature, voltage, fan rotation, power supply or CPU
operations such as watchdog timer. Depending on the alarm level or
user setup, it can generate several different alarm outputs, including
acoustic signal, system reset, relay output, or send out messages
through the serial port. The on-board CPU allows the user to set the
alarm criteria of each sense input independently, and to program
different alarm outputs to meet user requirements.
High Reliability
The PCL-752 features a built-in watchdog timer to ensure reliability.
Digital input lines are isolated up to 2000 VDc to prevent damage due
to high voltage input. The board’s battery backup enables the PCL-
752 to perform its alarm function even during total system power
failure.
Remote Monitoring
The PCL-752 is equipped with a serial port that can be used to link a
number of computers installed with the PCL-752. Through this serial
port, the user is able to monitor computers from one central computer.
This serial port can be configured as RS-232 to connect to a computer
nearby, or as RS-485 to cover a communication distance up to 4000
feet. By using a modem, users can even connect to anywhere a
telephone cable is available.

The PCL-849 series cards provide four individually configurable
RS-232 serial communication ports. The PCL-849A/849B/849L has a
16C554 UART which makes serial I/O more reliable. The higher
performance PCL-849+ has a 16C654 UART. By buffering data into
64-byte packets before putting it on the bus, UARTs drastically reduce
the CPU load. This makes the PCL-849+ especially suitable for high
speed serial I/O applications under multitasking environments.
The PCL-849 series cards support two operating modes, standard
mode and enhanced mode. In enhanced mode, the address for all four
ports can be set automatically. The PCL-849 series cards also support
either shared IRQ or independent IRQ functions. When an on-board
interrupt occurs, the interrupt status register (vector address) indicates
which port generated it. The shared interrupt can be set to most common
(extended) AT interrupts. This simplifies programming, speeds up

PCL-846/847 series cards provide four independent RS-422/485
serial ports on a card. Each port has a 16C550 UART with an on-chip
16-byte FIFO buffer for reliable, high-speed serial I/O. The UART
