solution for prototype development, and troubleshooting and testing
PC add-on cards.We hope you will find this tool very useful, and
easy to use.
The PCL-757 is an ISA bus switch/extension card that extends the
bus signals of the IBM PC/XT/AT(and its compatibles) to a wide
variety of PC add-on and prototype cards that can be plugged into
its 16-bit expansion slot(most 8-bit, XT-type cards may be used as
well).
Also, with the PCL-757, you can now reset your system’s CPU or
initialize an I/O interface card via an on-board reset switch.
The following information is a list of the PCL-757’s additional
features:

INSTALLATION of PCL-757

Installation of the PCL-757 is very straightforward. But first,
before you plug the extension card into a passive backplane or
motherboard, make sure that ALL power to your system is turned off,
and ALL power cords and peripheral devices (your computer’s power
supply, monitors, video display, etc.) have been disconnected from
the system unit.
The following instructions will assist you during the installation
process:
A. Remove your system’s chassis cover, and locate an
available 8-bit or 16-bit expansion slot on the passive
backplane or motherboard to plug in the PCL-757.
B. Carefully remove the PCL-757 from its static-resistant
package. Make sure that you do not touch any of its
circuitry with your hands.
C. Now, plug the card into an expansion slot. Use its
retaining bracket as a guide between the chassis’
retaining wall and the edge of the backplane or
motherboard.
D. Make sure that the PCL-757 fits snugly in its slot. Then
fasten its retaining bracket to the chassis’ retaining
wall with a screw.
E. If you wish to use the PCL-757’s system CPU reset
feature, connect your system’s reset wires from the
system unit control panel and motherboard (or CPU card)
to JP1 and JP2. JP1 connects to your system’s reset
switch, located on the system unit panel. JP2 connects
to the hardware reset jumper on your system board or CPU
card.
F. Leave the chassis cover off so that the PCL-757 will be
accessible.
G. Now, reconnect all power cords and peripheral devices to
your system unit.
The PCL-757’s installation is now complete. Please continue on to
the next section of this manual, where the extension card’s
operational functions are discussed.
OPERATION
You will find that the PCL-757 is extremely easy to use. Its
ON/OFF toggle switch allows you to disconnect all ISA signals sent
from your system’s bus to the extension card’s top-mounted
expansion slot. This feature allows you to conveniently plug in or
unplug an PC add-on or prototype card without having to repeatedly
turn your system on and off.
Before plugging in an add-on or prototype card, make sure that the
PCL-757’s ON/OFF toggle switch is set to OFF (in the DOWN
position). The large red LED should NOT be lit. Now, plug an add-
on or prototype card into the bus extension slot. When you are
sure that the card fits firmly in the slot, set the toggle switch
to ON (in the UP position), and you are ready to test an add-on
card or develop a new prototype. The red LED should be lit,
indicating that bus signals are now being sent to the PCL-757’s
expansion slot.
